Chief Superintendent Andrew Blackadar
Andrew joined the RCMP in 1990 and started his career working in in Newfoundland and Labrador where he worked in rural detachments and General Investigation Sections. The highlight of his career was policing remote parts of Labrador where he was stationed in Hopedale and Davis Inlet.
For the next 15 years of his career, he enhanced his operational and investigative policing skills while stationed at numerous detachments in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island where he worked in positions on Division Major Crimes, Recruiting, Criminal Operations and as a Division Media Relations Officer.
In 2014, Chief Superintendent Blackadar was commissioned to the rank of Inspector as the Performance Officer and later as the Operations Officer in-charge of Uniform Gang Enforcement and Surveillance at the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit - British Columbia. In 2017, he was promoted to the rank of Superintendent at the Operation Strategy Branch where he oversaw contract operations for British Columbia and later as the Support Officer for Criminal Operations (CROPS) - Federal Investigative Services and Organized Crime for British Columba. In his most recent role, Chief Superintendent Blackadar worked closely with policing partners and Deputy CROPS Officers to ensure efficient and effective policing support services for the British Columbians.
Chief Superintendent Blackadar is a firm believer in "communities first" and has formed deep community bonds in every area that he has policed to help make it a safer, more sustainable place. He has one adult son who is currently a Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Toronto. Chief Superintendent Blackadar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Thomas University in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Andrew looks forward to serving the people of Nunavut. "I am honoured and humbled to be the next Commanding Officer of the RCMP in Nunavut. I look forward to meeting and working with the communities, the Government of Nunavut, the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, other partners and the employees in every Hamlet to advance reconciliation and make the territory a stronger more resilient community.
