Westlock RCMP make arrest following stabbing – Update

Westlock RCMP have laid charges in connection with a stabbing that occurred on Aug. 23, 2024, in Westlock County. RCMP have charged a 30-year-old individual, a resident of Westlock County, with attempted murder.

The individual has been taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with a next court date set for Aug. 28, 2024, at the Albert Court of Justice in Westlock, Alta.

The victim in this attack is expected to recover.

Westlock RCMP make arrest following stabbing

At approximately 12:45 p.m., on Aug. 23, 2024, Westlock RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence located off Highway 44 near Township Road 603 in Westlock County. Upon arrival, it was discovered an individual had been stabbed requiring medical care.

After the stabbing, the suspect identified as an adult relative of the victim, fled the scene to a wooded area in Westlock County. RCMP quickly responded with assistance from Barrhead RCMP, Morinville RCMP, Police Dog Services and resources from the Emergency Response Team.

Communication between the Alberta RCMP Real Time Operations Centre and AEMA Wireless Notification Coordinator lead to messaging being released on the non-intrusive broadcast server for Police Initiated Public Alerts (PIPA).

The accused in this matter was located and arrested without incident shortly after 7 p.m. on Aug. 23, 2024.

Criminal charges against the accused have not been sworn before the Alberta Court of Justice, once charges are sworn, further details of the accused may be released.

Non-life-threatening injuries to the victim are being treated at an area hospital.
