Update: Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes investigating suspicious death

On September 16, 2024, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes arrested an adult male in relation to the death of an adult female on Big Island Lake Cree Territory.

As a result of continued investigation, 26-year-old Marchant Kiseyinewakup from Big Island Lake Cree Territory was charged with one count, second-degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code. His court date is not confirmed.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes continue to work with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service to confirm the identity of the victim. Until the identity is confirmed, we will not be confirming the name of the deceased female.

On September 12, 2024 at approximately 2:45 p.m., Pierceland RCMP received a report that someone had been seriously injured at a residence on Big Island Lake Cree Territory.

Officers responded immediately and located a deceased adult female at the residence. Saskatchewan RCMP are working to identify her.

The female's death is suspicious in nature. Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation and continue to investigate.
