Thorsby RCMP arrest male after several serious violent incidents in Warburg

On Aug. 20, 2024, at 7:44 p.m., Thorsby RCMP received a report of stabbing that occurred on 54 Avenue in Warburg.

Upon arrival, emergency workers tended to the victim who had several serious injures. The victim was taken to hospital where they are expected to recover.

While officers were assisting the victim, they were approached by an aggressive individual who police soon learned was their suspect in the stabbing. The suspect was quickly arrested. During the arrest, the suspect spat on officers.

Police identified a second victim during this incident. A bystander attempting to offer assistance was slashed, and he and his wife were threatened by the suspect.

As the investigation continued, police became aware of additional offences committed by the suspect. The suspect had recently been involved in an altercation with some teenage boys where one of the boys was assaulted, and three of them were threatened.

RCMP also learned that the suspect attempted to commit a robbery at a local market and in doing so broke a computer.

RCMP have charged an 18-year-old individual, a resident of Calgary, with:

  • Assault with a Weapon;
  • Assault Causing bodily harm;
  • Assaulting a police officer;
  • Uttering threats (x3);
  • Mischief;
  • Fail to comply with probation order;
  • Attempted robbery.

The individual was taken before a justice of the peace and has been remanded into custody with his next court date set for Aug. 28, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Breton.
