On April 28, 2023, at approximately 1:00 pm, Norway House RCMP officers were on patrol when they spotted Clayton Dixon, 21, walking in the community. Dixon was wanted on a warrant for Sexual Assault. When Dixon saw the officers, he ran into the bush.
Officers pursued Dixon, advising him he was under arrest. Dixon continued to evade police. He went through the bush and onto the ice on Little Playgreen Lake, where he fell through the ice several times, losing his shoes in the process.
Three officers donned floater suits and went onto the ice. One officer fell into the water, but was able to get out and was not injured. Despite Dixon assaulting the officers, they were able to get him safely off the ice and into custody. At that time, Dixon went into medical distress for hypothermia. The officers were able to get him into a makeshift shelter and cover him while delivering first aid.
The spot was inaccessible by vehicle, so officers had to determine a path through the woods and engage the assistance of EMS, local firefighters, and First Nation Safety Officers to get Dixon out of the bush on a stretcher. He was then taken to hospital, where he was treated and released to police custody. He remains in custody at this time. Dixon is facing additional charges of Assault Police Officer x2 and Resist Arrest.
In total, the officers tracked Dixon for approximately two and a half hours over a distance of approximately seven kilometres.
