Constable Graeme Brown of the Burin Peninsula RCMP is pleased with the success of a police operation over the summer that saw more than 120 children and youth ticketed… for doing good.
The positive ticketing program was initiated by Constable Brown as a joint venture between police and the Town of Marystown, with support from the Smallwood Crescent Community Centre and local businesses Mary Brown's, McDonald's, Subway and Tim Horton's.
"Connecting with children and youth in our communities and building positive relationships is at the heart of community policing," said Constable Brown. "It was awesome to see the kids' reactions when our officers provided tickets that they could redeem for a treat or other item. On behalf of the Burin Peninsula RCMP, I extend appreciation to the town and our community partners for supporting this fun initiative."
Mayor Brian Keating of Marystown commended the RCMP and all who supported the program.
"All kids benefit from having a positive relationship with police and it's great to see the RCMP doing all they do in our communities here on the Burin Peninsula," said Mayor Keating. "Whether it's this ticketing program, coaching our sports teams, or supporting charitable events and more, the officers here make so many contributions. I extend my appreciation to them and the local businesses who made the program possible."
The positive summer ticketing program concludes this month.
