National DNA Data Bank Advisory Committee
The National DNA Data Bank Advisory Committee is mandated to report and advise the Commissioner of the RCMP on all matters related to the effective and efficient operation of the National DNA Data Bank and to assist in preventing potential misuse of DNA information.
The Advisory Committee was established pursuant to the DNA Identification Act , which was proclaimed into force on June 30, 2000, and the DNA Identification Regulations. The setting up of such a Committee was recommended by the Standing Senate Committee on Legal Constitutional Affairs in its Sixteenth Report dated December 1998, wherein the need for an independent advisory committee was deemed necessary to review and advise on the implementation and ongoing administration of the National DNA Data Bank.
