Workplace harassment and violence prevention, investigation and resolution
Quick links
The RCMP is committed to providing a healthy, respectful and inclusive workplace free of harassment, violence, discrimination and other forms of disrespectful behaviour. It's important that all employees are treated in a manner that is consistent with the RCMP's mission, vision and values.
In June 2021, the RCMP launched the Independent Centre for Harassment Resolution (ICHR). The ICHR is a centralized, independent unit that:
- looks after the resolution of harassment and violence occurrences for RCMP employees through a trauma-informed approach
- offers support to current and former employees who have been victims of workplace harassment and violence
- ensures ongoing compliance with the Work Place Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations
Reporting workplace harassment and violence
Any form of harassment, violence, and discrimination is unacceptable and is not tolerated by the RCMP. Employees should feel confident in coming forward to report incidents and to trust that their concerns will be taken seriously and addressed in a fair and transparent manner.
Prevention
Workplace harassment and violence can have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of the individuals involved, as well as their families, coworkers and the broader workplace. Prevention is key to ensuring that the workplace remains a safe and respectful space for everyone.
In July 2021, the RCMP implemented the Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention, Investigation and Resolution Policy. The new policy focuses on:
- prevention
- early resolution
- restoring the workplace
The policy helps to contribute to an inclusive, safe and non-discriminatory workplace by:
- setting out expectations for the behaviour of employees
- establishing effective mechanisms for responding to incidents of workplace harassment and violence
