Pinasuqatigiinniq: to work cooperatively together

Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada (PIWC) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) wish to establish a formal working relationship to improve the protection and safety of Inuit women, children and gender-diverse persons.

This principled approach is based on mutual trust in transparent and open communication, with the shared goal of reducing violence against Inuit women, children and gender-diverse persons through an engaged, sensitive and culturally responsive policing service.

In order to cultivate our relationship, Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada and the RCMP confirms that:

1. There will be formal teleconferences twice per year between our organizations' leadership. The RCMP will contact PIWC with available dates in advance of these meetings.
2. There will be regular teleconferences between PIWC and RCMP Commanding Officers in the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Newfoundland (G, V and B). Representatives from Pauktuutit will contact the Commanding Officers directly as required.
3. An 'evergreen' workplan will be jointly developed to outline mutual goals, priorities and deliverables, which will be signed annually by our respective leaders.
4. Annual versions of the workplan will include a status update on any deliverable from the previous year.

This document is made in the spirit of reconciliation, with a shared goal of urgent action and collaboration, to effect meaningful, lasting change and improve both the protection and safety of all Inuit women, children and gender-diverse persons.
