Thanks to the generosity of residents in Newfoundland and Labrador, RCMP NL's 2024 Wish Tree Campaign was quite a success with $30,000 raised in support of Make-A-Wish Canada. The funds raised represents nearly three wishes! The official cheque presentation from RCMP NL to Make-A-Wish Canada occurred at RCMP Headquarters in St. John's on March 11, 2025. Following the cheque presentation, a local child was surprised when her wish was revealed.

On Tuesday, five-year-old Alexa, who dreams of becoming a police officer, thought she was attending RCMP NL Headquarters for a tour of the building. While she did receive a tour, surrounded by her family, she also received the surprising news from Make-A-Wish Canada – Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter that her wish to travel to her favorite theme park was being granted.

The wish reveal event was a heartwarming occasion for those in attendance, including RCMP NL police officers and employees, and representatives from Make-A-Wish Canada – Newfoundland and Labrador Chapter.

With the knowledge of Alexa's desire to become a police officer, RCMP NL appointed her as an honorary RCMP officer for the day during her wish reveal and facilitated a number of unique experiences, including:

  • Changing into a special Red Serge outfit
  • Meeting police officers with the Emergency Response Team, who rapelled from the roof of the building
  • Meeting Potential Police Service Dog Tremor, who was full of sloppy kisses
  • A visit from her favorite TV show character, Chase, of the Paw Patrol
  • Receiving some cool RCMP swag

As RCMP NL looks ahead to the 40th anniversary of the RCMP Wish Tree Campaign in 2025, planning is already underway to make next year's event even more impactful. RCMP NL thanks all employees, community partners, and residents of the province who helped contributed to this year's success. You certainly helped to make Alexa's Wish come true!
