On August 29th, 2024 in the early hours of the morning, Yellowknife RCMP's General Investigation Section, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team, executed a search warrant on a residence in Yellowknife under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Three people were arrested as a result. During the search of the residence, police located approximately $12,000 in cash, approximately 100 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 3 loaded firearms and other drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Two of the arrested parties were later released by police.
As a result of this investigation, 19-year-old Jackito Guiwan of Alberta is currently facing the following charges:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Trafficking in a controlled substance, contrary to section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm (3 counts), contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of a restricted firearm or prohibited weapon with ammunition, (2 counts) contrary to section 95(1) of the Criminal Code
- Unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon or prohibited weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code
- Unsafe storage of firearms, contrary to section 86(2) of the Criminal Code
He appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody.
