On July 18, 2024 at approximately 4 pm, Watson Lake RCMP were investigating a call for police service when they spotted Calvin John Dickson Junior (Jr). Police attempted to arrest him, as he was at large on a release order for 23 outstanding charges, including forcible confinement, assault, criminal harassment and utter threats. Mr. Dickson Jr. also had an outstanding unendorsed warrant for arrest for two counts of failure to comply and assault.
The 30-year-old male ran from police into a nearby lake. Mr. Dickson Jr. refused to exit the lake for more than an hour. Police, concerned with Mr. Dickson Jr's wellbeing, continued to verbally encourage Mr. Dickson Jr. to exit the lake. While continuing to listen and communicate with Mr. Dickson Jr., police launched a police boat into the lake and safely took Mr. Dickson Jr. into custody. Mr. Dickson Jr. was held for court appearance on July 19, with additional charges of two counts of failure to comply with a release order and resisting arrest.
