PEI RCMP have apprehended the suspect in recent dangerous driving incidents.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday July 22, 2024 PEI RCMP, with the assistance of RCMP Dog Services, and Summerside Police contained the suspect in an area around Cascumpec. The suspect discarded his clothing in an attempt to throw off police dogs and entered the water, attempting to hide amongst oyster cages. A passing fisherman supported police with a boat, and Tyne Valley Fire Services boat was also used by police in apprehending the suspect.

This incident started in the afternoon of Sunday July 21 when the suspect stole a vehicle and was widely reported to be driving dangerously in various locations of Prince County. The vehicle evaded police on several occasions and overnight from July 21 to July 22 was not seen. In the morning of July 22, RCMP again received reports of the vehicle driving dangerously and evading police. Police pursuits are called off, if there is a risk to the public.

Later in the morning of July 22, the driver crashed the vehicle and then stole another vehicle, once again evading police for a short while. Thanks to numerous public reports, police were able to contain the suspect, who fled the second vehicle, eventually attempting to evade police in nearby water. The suspect faces multiple charges and RCMP will be opposing the individual's release.

This incident highlights how cooperation amongst emergency service providers enhances public safety as along with those service mentioned, Summerside Police Ident teams, Queens District RCMP, PEI RCMP Traffic Services, and Police Joint Forces Operations (JFO) all assisted in various ways. PEI RCMP are grateful for the support of media and the public in helping bring this incident to a positive close with no injuries to the public.
