Shamattawa RCMP investigate death

News release

On July 29, 2024, at approximately 10:50 am, Shamattawa RCMP received a report of a missing 60-year-old male from the community. It was reported that community members were conducting searches in the area.

Shortly thereafter, RCMP were advised that community members had located remains in a wooded area near a path, believed to be that of the missing person.

Evidence at the scene suggests that animal predation had occurred. RCMP Forensic Identification Services is assisting with the investigation.

An autopsy will be conducted.

Conservation Officers had been made aware and are en route to the community to assist.

Shamattawa RCMP, along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, continue to investigate.
