RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is warning the public of a scam involving the impersonation of a police officer.
On September 12, a resident of the Lawrencetown area received a phone call from someone claiming to be a security representative from Amazon.
The victim was told that there was suspicious activity on their Amazon account and was then transferred to another person claiming to be from a law enforcement agency, who indicated that the RCMP was investigating the unusual Amazon transactions.
The victim was instructed to withdraw a sum of money and deliver it to an undercover RCMP officer, who would show up to collect it. The scammers also provided the victim with the phone number for the Nova Scotia RCMP headquarters, as well as a fake name for a police officer who was supposedly working on the file.
That evening, a man described as being in his mid-thirties with light curly hair arrived at the victim's residence to get the money. He was driving a black Ford Fusion with a New Brunswick licence plate.
