There have been several recent inquiries regarding traffic enforcement within the City of Whitehorse and area. Whitehorse RCMP are working hard to keep the roads safe. In May 2024, Whitehorse RCMP issued 70 traffic related tickets, 73 warnings, 6 - 24-hour suspensions, 7 impaired charges, and impounded 15 vehicles.
RCMP are reminding all Yukoners that traffic safety is everyone's responsibility.
Here are some tips for safe driving;
- Slow down, and maintain a 20-30 second visual lead to identify unexpected problems.
- Follow the rules of the road.
- Watch for children. With school out for the summer, its more important than ever to watch for kids playing on the street and riding bicycles.
- Make sure you look for pedestrians at intersections, not just other vehicles.
- Watch for bicyclists and give them plenty of space.
- Don't drive if you are using alcohol or drugs.
