The Lamèque RCMP is investigating the discovery of human remains in Baie de Petit-Pokemouche, N.B.

On July 17, 2024, at approximately 7:10 p.m., members of the Lamèque RCMP detachment located human remains in a wooded area off of Highway 113 in Baie de Petit-Pokemouche. The remains were discovered in an area of interest in the search for a missing 54-year-old woman from Shippagan, who was last seen on June 30, 2024. Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the remains.

Members of the New Brunswick RCMP's Forensic Identification Services were consulted, and members of the Shippagan Fire Department, an RCMP drone operator, and a member of the New Brunswick Coroner's Office also attended the scene.

At this time, police do not have any reason to believe that criminality was involved.

The investigation is continuing to identify the remains and to determine the cause of death.
