On July 26th and July 27th Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement and Iqaluit RCMP teamed up for an impaired driving initiative. The focus of the initiative was getting those under the influence of substances off the roadways, to ensure everyone's safety.
Over the course of the two nights officers stopped and checked approximately fifty vehicles. Three drivers were arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Additionally, seven drivers were given 24-hour license suspensions after registering an 'alert' on a roadside alcohol screening device.
Iqaluit Municipal Enforcement and Iqaluit RCMP encourage drivers to practice safe driving practices and will continue to work together to enforce a zero tolerance for impaired driving.
Plan ahead for a safe ride home if you intend to use substances.
