On August 4, 2024, at approximately 12:00 a.m, the Iqaluit RCMP responded to complaint of a fire at the Iqaluit Damp Shelter. The Iqaluit Fire Department arrived on scene and was able to extinguish the fire before it was able to cause significant damage to the building.

Upon investigation, a suspected was identified and was later arrested. Adam Kopalie (25 years old), was charged with:

• One count of Arson, Section 433(a) C.C
• Two counts of Mischief, Section 430(4) C.C
