In 1992, the International Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE) Canada, on behalf of its members, established an award to recognize a member, unit or detachment of the RCMP for exemplary public service to their community outside of their official duties. Each year, the office of the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police chooses the recipient. The 2024 recipient is Corporal Antoine Charbachi, from New Brunswick RCMP.
On May 30th, as part of their first in-person annual conference since 2019, the IODE presented Cpl Charbachi with the award. Her Honour, Antoinette Perry, Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island was on hand, and representing RCMP Commissioner Michael Duheme was PEI RCMP Commanding Officer, Chief Superintendent Kevin Lewis.
In presenting the award the IODE noted that Cpl. Charbachi actively promotes community policing practices at the detachment level and in the community. In particular he was cited for his extensive work with numerous programs aimed at combatting impaired driving amongst teens and adults, and his outstanding contributions with diverse cultural communities, all of which has contributed to J Division's strong reputation for enhancing RCMP-community partnerships. On a personal note, the IODE also recognized Cpl Charbachi's volunteer service, a key part of their own members mandate, thanking him for being a volunteer soccer coach and supporting his daughter's swim team.
Cpl. Charbachi has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the RCMP's mission, vision and core values through his dedication to quality service and building partnerships in the community he serves, as well as a variety of locations across Canada.
