Today, the PEI RCMP had the privilege of welcoming Tiffany Sark from Lennox Island First Nation, who performed a beautiful smudging ceremony on several of the Eagle Feathers provided to us. It was a deeply significant moment, one that underscores our desire to build reconciliation efforts, the value of cultural traditions in our work and our commitment the First Nations communities on PEI.

In Mi'kmaq culture, smudging ceremonies hold immense importance. They're not just rituals; they're sacred acts of cleansing, purifying, and connecting with the spiritual realm. The smoke from sacred herbs like sage, sweetgrass, and cedar carries prayers to the Creator, clearing negative energy and restoring balance and harmony.

Eagle Feathers, revered in First Nations communities, carry profound symbolic meaning. They represent strength, wisdom, and the connection to the spirit world. In the pursuit of justice, these feathers play a pivotal role. They symbolize truth, integrity, and the pursuit of fairness—a guiding light in our efforts to uphold justice for all. PEI RCMP can offer these feathers when taking statements or they can be used in court when swearing an oath of truth.

Today's ceremony isn't just a one-time event; it's a reaffirmation of our commitment to honor and respect Indigenous traditions. It's a recognition of the deep roots that shape our shared journey towards understanding and reconciliation.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Tiffany Sark for her invaluable contribution. Her presence and wisdom have enriched our community, reminding us of the importance of cultural diversity and unity. Together, we walk the path of understanding and respect, one ceremony at a time.
