On August 30th, 2024, Fort Providence RCMP received a report of two suspicious persons loitering around a local business in Fort Providence. Officers located the suspects and subsequently learned both had active warrants for their arrest.
After arresting the suspects, officers located a firearm and ammunition, approximately 108 grams of suspected crack-cocaine, $1220 in cash as well as other weapons and drug paraphernalia.
Two Saskatchewan youths, aged 16 and 17, are facing the following charges:
- Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition without licence, contrary to section 95(1) of the Criminal Code
- Carrying a concealed weapon (2 counts) contrary to section 90(1) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (2 counts), contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code
- Careless use of a firearm (2 counts) contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code
The 16-year-old subject is facing an additional 3 counts of failure to comply with a probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code.
The 17-year-old is facing one additional count of possession of a weapon contrary to a court order, contrary to section 117.01(1) of the Criminal Code.
Both parties, neither of which can be named due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have appeared before a Justice of the Peace and remain in custody at this time.
