Alberta RCMP officer involved in shooting in Fort McMurray

On Dec. 12, 2024, at 5:32 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a disturbance at a residence on Siltstone Place in Fort McMurray. Officers attended, and while ensuring that everyone was safe in the residence, an altercation ensued, and an officer was attacked. As a result, the officer discharged their service weapon.

The suspect suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. One officer received minor injuries as a result of the altercation.

In compliance with legislative requirements, the director of law enforcement was immediately notified causing the deployment of ASIRT to conduct an independent investigation. The RCMP believes in accountability and transparency, and in so doing, will provide full support to the ASIRT investigators. Events like this are difficult for everyone involved.
