On Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Fox Lake RCMP responded to a weapons complaint at the Fox Lake Nursing Station. RCMP arrived at the nursing station where a 19-year-old female resident of Fox Lake was being treated for injuries consistent with a stab wound. Despite life saving efforts by medical staff, the female succumbed to her injuries. The matter was deemed a homicide, and RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation.
RCMP arrested and charged a 19-year-old individual, a resident of Fox Lake, with manslaughter. The individual was held for judicial interim release hearing and was remanded into custody, with a next court appearance is set for Sept. 10, 2024, in Fort Vermilion, Alta.
