On February 28, 2023, at 1:45 pm, Selkirk RCMP received a report of a suspect attempting to purchase goods at a business located on Manitoba Avenue using counterfeit Canadian currency.
Officers were advised that a suspect produced two $100 bank notes in an effort to make a purchase when the cashier suspected they were counterfeit and called police. The suspect immediately fled the store.
The preliminary investigation has determined that several businesses in Selkirk were targeted and two suspects were caught on surveillance cameras.
The counterfeit currency was seized and two of the three bills were found with the same serial number. The three bank notes also had features that are found on a different denomination.
