This work is being done in an effort to ensure that we are enhancing the quality of policing in recognition of the unique needs of Indigenous communities and those of the Indigenous peoples of this province through the work we are doing on these initiatives.
To honour Indigenous peoples, we ensure that our priority focus on Indigenous community engagement is:
· Relationship building and participating in an inclusive process for a common goal and working towards mutually agreed upon priorities.
· Supporting to the wellbeing of Indigenous peoples.
· Enhanced communication.
· Considering Indigenous perspectives, relationships, and ways of knowing through the lens of Indigenous perspectives, teachings, and relationships.
· Establishing a clear vision and course of action.
Together, our Community Engagement – Indigenous Policing Services team is made up of passionate, committed, dynamic, hardworking individuals dedicated to bringing about long-term changes. This team and other New Brunswick RCMP employees are currently working on a number of incredible initiatives. All of these initiatives are consistent with the National RCMP's commitment to foster respectful and trusting relationships with Indigenous people, communities and employees. As an organization, we are committed to enhancing community safety and wellbeing, improving investigative standards, and developing culturally competent, trauma-informed employees.
As we reflect today, we would like to share the following prayer from Sgt. Tony Dunphy, NCO i/c Indigenous Policing Services, New Brunswick RCMP:
Great Spirit, we honour and thank you for our lives and for our families. We look at your world and praise you for the diversity all around us. Thank you for the gift of relationships; our connection with people, animals and the land.
Great Spirit as we face many challenges and crises in our lives and world, may our families be safe and healthy and continue to show us how to live respectfully with all people, and all in creation.
