Saskatchewan RCMP -- Your Provincial Police Service
Winter hasn't even officially started yet (despite the recent frigid temperatures!), and Saskatchewan RCMP detachments are already getting reports of vehicles being stolen while they're running with the keys inside.
One individual in Southern Saskatchewan not only had their running vehicle stolen last week – they also lost their cell phone and other personal items left in it.
If you need to warm up your vehicle during cold weather, consider installing and using a remote vehicle starter, locking the running vehicle with a spare set of keys or using a wheel lock device. Last – if it's at all possible, don't leave your vehicle out of your sight while it's running.
Investigative Recap
November 11: At approximately 1:15 a.m., Humboldt RCMP received a report of an unwanted person at a residence in Humboldt. When officers arrived, the person – an adult male – had already left the residence on foot. Investigation determined the male was breaching court-ordered conditions. Officers soon located him nearby, but he ran from them. The officers noted he was not dressed appropriately for the -20 Celsius temperature and were concerned he would be at risk for frostbite and exposure.
Officers searched for him on foot and by police vehicle throughout the community, and also asked that Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services attend and assist. Police Service Dog Nazz tracked the male through an alleyway and down a walking trail. The officer handling Nazz could then hear a call for help from a treeline in the distance.
The male was located at around 4 a.m. and was showing signs of medical distress due to the extreme cold. He was transported to hospital for treatment. He was later charged for resisting arrest and breach of his probation order, and was released for court at a later date.
"Our primary concern in any situation is the well-being of everyone involved. This man felt it necessary to run from the responding officers, but once they realized that he wasn't safely equipped to be outdoors in that weather, their focus shifted from locating him for arrest to ensuring his safety. This includes seeking medical assistance for him once he was located," says Humboldt RCMP Sgt. Rielly Knock. "Having nearby Police Dog Services available to help is of great assistance in all sorts of situations."
"The detachment members recognized this man's life could be in danger and began an intense search for him. RCMP Police Dog Services are here to help out – anywhere in the province – in situations like this," says Sgt. David McClarty of Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services. "I'm happy that Nazz and his handler, who are new to Police Dog Services and are based out of Melfort, were able to help locate this male safely."

A window in one of them was broken. It's unknown if anything was stolen from them. It is believed that the individuals left the condominium on foot via an alley way.

Reports of intimate partner and family violence
- Time period reported is quarterly.
- Data represents number of victims, as there may be more than one victim on a specific investigative file. An individual victimized more than once in a timeframe would be counted more than once. Due to common relationship types in intimate and family violence categories, totals should not be combined.
- Intimate partner refers to violence committed by spouses (legally married, separated, divorced and common-law), current and former dating partner, or someone with whom the victim was in another type of intimate relationship.
- Family violence refers to violence committed by spouses (legally married, separated, divorced and common-law), parents (biological, step, adoptive and foster), children (biological, step, adopted and foster), siblings (biological, step, half, adopted and foster) and extended family members (grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and in-laws).
