Big River RCMP: kidnapping, firearms charges laid

On July 8, 2021 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Big River RCMP responded to a firearms complaint at a residence on Big River First Nation.

Investigation has determined that a vehicle with multiple individuals inside drove up to the residence. The residence's window was smashed and a firearm was discharged through it and at another vehicle on the property. The individuals then left the residence.

A short while later, RCMP officers located the same vehicle at another property on Big River First Nation. Two males and a female were taken into custody without incident. A fourth individual, a female, was located at the residence and investigation revealed she had been assaulted and forcibly confined there for a short time.

A search warrant was then executed at this residence on the evening of July 8. Three firearms, several imitation firearms and ammunition were seized as part of this investigation.

Sandra Campbell of Big River, SK is charged with:

  • 2 counts, discharge firearm with intent to endanger life, Section 244(1), Criminal Code
  • 3 counts, assault with weapon, Section 267(a), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, assault, Section 266, Criminal Code
  • 2 counts, mischief under $5,000, Section 430(4), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, possession of firearm in vehicle, Section 94, Criminal Code
  • 1 count, careless use of firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code
  • 3 counts, careless storage of firearm, Section 86(2), Criminal Code
  • 4 counts, possession of a restricted firearm/weapon, Section 91(3), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, kidnapping without firearm, Section 279(1.1)(b), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, uttering threats. Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, pointing a firearm, Section 87(2), Criminal Code

Christopher Vandale of Big River, SK is charged with:

  • 1 count, forcible confinement, Section 279(2), Criminal Code
  • 2 counts, unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86(2), Criminal Code
  • 2 counts, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, fail to comply with release order, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code

Harold Rabbitskin of Big River, SK is charged with:

  • 1 count resist peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code
  • 2 counts, unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86(2), Criminal Code
  • 1 count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code

All three will appear in court on July 13, 2021.
