First Nation Safety Officers and Island Lake RCMP have made two methamphetamine seizures and two arrests in three days at the airport in St. Theresa Point First Nation.
On June 3, 2018, Island Lake RCMP assisted St. Theresa Point First Nation Safety Officers with a seizure of a large quantity of methamphetamine.
First Nation Safety Officers had attended the local airport after investigation had determined a female coming in on a flight had methamphetamine in her possession. After detaining the female, First Nation Safety Officers found she had 89 grams of meth.
Carleigh Lathlin, 27, from Winnipeg, was formally charged by RCMP officers with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Lathlin was transported to Island Lake RCMP Detachment where she was remanded into custody.
On June 5, 2018, First Nation Safety Officers attended the local airport after investigation had determined a male coming in on a flight had methamphetamine in his possession. Officers seized 47 grams of methamphetamine.
A 27-year-old male from St. Theresa Point was charged by RCMP officers with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking. He had two outstanding warrants for his arrest for Assault.
"This was amazing work done by First Nation Safety Officers in St. Theresa Point," said Cst. Carleigh Schirmacher from the Island Lake RCMP Detachment. "The RCMP's goal is to keep the community safe, and it is very good to know that First Nation Safety Officers are there to work so closely with us in reaching that goal."
