On December 10, 2018, Harbour Grace RCMP partnered with the Children's Wish Foundation for a Wish Tree lighting ceremony at the local detachment. The tree is lit with red bulbs which each turn white after every $10 donation. Funds raised support the granting of wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. Since December 10, over $2000 has been raised, with the goal to turn all the red bulbs white to light up the night sky in Harbour Grace by December 31, 2018.
Harbour Grace RCMP thanks its community partners and residents for their wonderful support to help the Children's Wish Foundation make wishes come true.
Many community groups donated and participated in the annual fundraiser: O'Neill's Garden Centre prepared the site for the tree, CBDC Trinity Conception provided the tree lights and Newfoundland and Labrador Light and Power assisted with decorating. Cake and candy canes were provided by Carbonear Foodland, hot chocolate and timbits by Carbonear Tim Hortons and a large quantity of cookies by the Carbonear Dominion.
Attendees at this year's event included local residents, children from St. Francis School Choir, Moore's Ambulance, Harbour Grace Fire Department, Harbour Grace mayor Don Coombs, The Salvation Army, Miss Teen Trinity-Conception Brianna Barrett, Junior Miss Newfoundland and Labrador Rachel Graham, the RCMP NL Safety Bear and the CeeBee's mascot Honey Bee. A great time was had by all!
