Commissioner’s National Indigenous Advisory Committee
We established the Commissioner's National Indigenous Advisory Committee in 1990 to help communicate with and learn from our Indigenous partners. It also helps us to:
- collaborate with Indigenous Peoples and communities
- provide the highest-quality policing for Indigenous communities
- gather advice and cultural perspectives on matters related to Indigenous policing
Members meet directly with the Commissioner and senior executives twice a year. To help with our priority of creating safer and healthier Indigenous communities, they provide:
- perspectives on Indigenous Peoples' interactions with police
- suggestions and recommendations
- an exchange of knowledge
- guidance
The committee has diverse representation from each province and territory. Each member takes part on the committee for a period of four years.
